Zanny’s Career started off after her graduation from the University in 1992; She was first appointed as the special adviser to the minister of finance in Poland, as part of a small organization led by a Harvard University professor, professor Jeffrey Sachs. After that, she worked as an economist at the international monetary fund also known as (IMF) where she worked on programs like the transition economies of Central and Eastern Europe and the macroeconomic adjustment programs in Africa.

In the year 1994, she was employed as a newspaper correspondent for emerging markets at The London-based newspaper company “The Economist”. She worked in this position for over a year before she was promoted to the economist editor in 1996, as the editor, she oversees the global economics coverage from Washington DC. She later moved to the position of a Business Affairs editor and was left with the responsibility of business, finance, and science publications. 

At the introduction of the euro to the United States House Financial Services Subcommittee on International Monetary Policy and Trade in the year 1998, Zanny gave expert testimony.

In 2015 she was appointed the editor-in-chief of the economist making her the seventeenth (17th) and first female editor-in-chief of the company which came after her few years of working as the editor. She was considered one of the most influential voices that have ever worked as a financial journalist in the UK by Debrett’s published list of the UK’s 500 most influential across 24 sectors. She has written so many international publications and surveys as seen in foreign affairs and policy.
